Dotdenote Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-27

Dotdenote ("the app") is an iOS client for Denote, a plain-text note-taking system for Emacs. Notes are stored on a WebDAV server you own and control. The app is open source.

This document describes what the app does with data.

Short version

The app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to servers operated by the developer. There are no accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party SDKs.

What stays on your device

The following information resides locally on your device:

  • WebDAV server URL and username (iOS Keychain)
  • WebDAV password (iOS Keychain, encrypted)
  • Selected visual theme (app preferences)

Deleting the app removes all stored data.

Where your notes live

All note content is read from and written to the WebDAV server you configure. The developer operates no servers involved in this process. The privacy terms of your chosen server govern content storage and access.

Third parties

The app does not embed any analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs. Network connections are made exclusively to the WebDAV server URL you provide.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from minors.

Changes
